Understanding Grief During Major Life Changes

Grief can arise from many life challenges—the loss of a loved one, the end of a relationship, job loss, moving, bankruptcy, aging, or illness. While the classic stages of grief introduced by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross—Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance—provide a helpful foundation, experience shows this model does not fit everyone perfectly. Each person’s journey through loss is deeply unique, and experiencing grief or resistance to their next phase is a common, yet difficult, struggle during major transitions.

Transforming Complicated Grief

Navigating that journey alone can be overwhelming, and working with an experienced therapist is often essential in transforming complicated grief into a healthier, more manageable process. In my practice, I specialize in life transition therapy for private pay experiencing difficulty with transition from one stage to the next in their life. The goal isn't just to "get over" the loss, but to find acceptance and an ability to navigate their phase of life.

Grief work requires a compassion, open and connected approach. As a telehealth provider for California and Louisiana , I help adults and couples process these heavy emotions through specialized clinical methods:

Grief work and Trauma therapy: Providing a secure environment to process profound losses and underlying trauma.

Gestalt Therapy: Encouraging awareness of how your grief is impacting your mind and body in the "here and now".

CBT and DBT: Building practical coping strategies for the anxiety and depression that frequently accompany major life changes.

Reach Your Full Potential

If you are motivated to do the work, reaching out for support is a courageous first step. Through talk therapy, we can directly address the roadblocks keeping you stuck, helping you realize the importance of reaching your full potential in all areas of our lives.
